Who We Are

The Coast Guard Auxiliary is the civilian, non-military component of the Coast Guard team, created by an act of Congress in 1939. The Auxiliary directly supports the Coast Guard in all of its missions except military and law enforcement actions.

Recreational boaters in the United States is growing rapidly. To help make boating safer for all, the Auxiliary needs more quality members, people like you! U.S. citizens 17 yrs. of age and older can join.

Benefits of Membership

Members are eligible to receive the world's finest on-the-water training. Advanced training courses in Navigation, Seamanship, Communications, Weather, Patrols, and Search & Rescue are available as well as courses from the Coast Guard Institute. Other benefits include the Coast Guard Credit Union and Exchanges plus insurance coverage.

The pride of wearing the Auxiliary uniform is amplified by the Auxiliary awards system. Your efforts will be recognized and rewarded. Fun, fellowship and service are trademarks of the Auxiliary!

What We Do

Over 34,000 volunteer Auxiliarists, nation-wide, actively patrol our waterways and regularly meet with the boating public at marinas and in classrooms.

Auxiliarists also serve side-by-side with active duty members of the Coast Guard team at their stations and in times of disaster.

  • Vessel Safety Checks - giving free safety checks to recreational and commercial fishing vessels.

  • Marine Environment Protection - promoting clean waterways through marine pollution awareness programs that help to recognize, protect and assess the environment.
  • Recruiting - building a stronger Coast Guard team through promoting awareness of career opportunities for service.
